So, What is Enshrined?

Hi, welcome. You’re probably here because you’ve stumbled onto one of our social media pages and wondered what the hell this beautiful, messed up thing that is called Enshrined actually is. That or this is the first you’re seeing of it in which case I am proud to usher you into our little corner of the internet.

So to answer, what is Enshrined. Well…it’s a video game, an in development video game. At least it was and still is but it is also quickly becoming an ever expanding series of world building, lore and art. I suspect that is just the natural outcome when the team working on it is dominated by artists. So even if video games aren’t your thing, we have tons of stories and art ranging from quaint to epic for you to enjoy. But getting back on topic, what kind of game is Enshrined meant to be? We have a 40 page game design document that you are welcome to read that pretty neatly outlines what you can expect, but if a short story’s worth of game mechanics aren’t your thing then…well we’re having a hard time explaining it.

Let’s start with the basics; Enshrined is at its heart a multiplayer action RPG taking place in the isometric perspective, with an in depth crafting system for weapons and armor and with the randomized elements and replayability of a roguelike

One of our proposed armour sets

As the player, you find yourself on a small raft washing up on the shore of an uncharted island, inhabited by strange and dangerous creatures and even stranger and (possibly) more dangerous people, all twisted and reshaped by eldritch magics. Your task is to survive and later thrive while competing against your fellow players who are fighting over the same resources all the while readying yourself for the end state, the final part of the game where cataclysm will change your objectives, your alliances and possibly even the ground under your feet. A challenge few will meet.

But don’t worry, should you fail, you get to try again. Death is never permanent, only a setback, or if you choose to see it so, an opportunity. An opportunity to try something new and exciting, change up your fighting style or game plan to better suit the realities of the island, get even with the bastard that put you in the ground in the first place.

After all of that, retire to your cove, a little corner of the world that is yours to do with as you please. Show off the weapons and armor you made, display some of the exotic creatures and plants you’ve discovered, read some of the stories and lore in your library and advance your bloodline, opening new options for the next time you step foot on the island.

The Cove

So as you can see, we borrow elements from rpg’s, crafting games, roguelikes, survival games and mixed in isometric combat to create something we have yet to see, that no one we’ve asked has yet seen, leaving us with very few examples to draw on when answering the question of “What is Enshrined”.
